Online safeguarding

Chew TV take the online safety of its users very seriously. All Channel controllers have up-to-date Criminal Records Bureau checks and have attended online safety training.

All content on the Chew TV network is moderated for suitability and Child safeguarding plays an important part in this.

Channel controllers have been trained to implement safeguarding measures throughout the Chew TV network, to ensure that it is as safe as possible.

The network Internet Safety Officer monitors e-safety closely. Any queries or concerns please email: privacy@chewtv.com

Facebook Login

The Chew TV network is very pleased to be able to include a facebook login on some of its channels. It allows users to use the channels more freely and more often.

As with all channels on the Chew TV network, you MUST be aged thirteen in order to be a member of facebook and therefore no younger users has the ability to 'login' to the Chew TV network. As well as this you must already be a Chew TV network user in order to do so, and so we moderate and check all user profiles for suitability.

On logging into facebook and then linking through to a channel on the Chew TV network, none of the users details will appear. It does however give young people the ability to 'share' videos, which promotes their talents further.

Data Protection

Chew TV CIC is registered with the Information Commissioners office under the Data Protection Act 1998:

The Act works in two ways. Firstly, it states that anyone who processes personal information must comply with eight principles, which make sure that personal information is:

Fairly and lawfully processed

Processed for limited purposes

Adequate, relevant and not excessive

Accurate and up to date

Not kept for longer than is necessary

Processed in line with your rights

Secure

Not transferred to other countries without adequate protection.

The second area covered by the Act provides individuals with important rights, including the right to find out what personal information is held on computer and most paper records.

Safe and Responsible online behaviour

Dr Tanya Byron's report on "Safer children in the digital world" focuses closely on how "Children and young people need to be empowered to keep themselves safe". Below are some tips to young people and parents using the Chew TV network on how to stay safe online.

All registered users on the Chew TV network are over thirteen years, for those users under eighteen, Childnet gives this advice: Be SMART

STAYING SAFE involves being careful and not giving out your name, address, mobile phone no., school name or password to people online.

MEETING someone you have contacted in cyberspace can be dangerous. Only do so with your parent's/carer's permission, and then when they can be present

ACCEPTING e-mails or opening files from people you don't really know or trust can get you into trouble - they may contain viruses or nasty messages

RELIABLE - Someone online maybe lying about who they are, and information you find on the Internet may not be reliable.

TELL your parent or carer if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable or worried.

To report inappropriate contact online with children by an adult visit the CEOP website and click the REPORT button.

The Chew TV network supports the first ever Internet safety strategy "Click Clever Click Safe' which is coined the 'Green Cross Code' for Internet safety: 'Zip it, Block it, Flag it', for more information and to view the strategy go to UKCCIS.
